Lucious Jackson
Luscious Jackson is an alternative/pop-rock group formed in 1991. They are named after now-retired American basketball player Lucious Jackson, whose name was mispronounced "luscious" during a sportscast.
The original band consisted of Jill Cunniff (vocals, bass), Gabby Glaser (vocals, guitar), Kate Schellenbach (drums) and Vivian Trimble (keyboards, vocals). The band played nearly every instrument heard on their records, and with the exception of a few non-LP cover songs wrote all of their own material, the majority penned by vocalists Jill Cunniff and/or Gabby Glaser. Between 1993 and 2000 they released one EP, three full length LPs and ten singles on the Beastie Boys' Grand Royal record label. Their biggest hit & only Billboard Top 40 entry is "Naked Eye" (#36, March 22, 1997). Other notable singles include "Here", "CitySong (NY State Of The World)", "Under Your Skin" and "Ladyfingers". Vivian Trimble left the group in 1998, and in 2000 (after releasing one album as a trio) the group officially announced the break up of Luscious Jackson. February 2007 saw the release of Luscious Jackson's "greatest hits" compilation, and in the Fall of 2006 the band announced that they have reunited and are to begin work on a new children's album.

Low
Low is an American indie rock group from Duluth, Minnesota, formed in 1993. As of 2008, the group is composed of Alan Sparhawk (guitar and vocals) and Mimi Parker (drums and vocals), both founding members, and Steve Garrington (bass guitar).
Their music is commonly described as "slowcore," a rock subgenre characterised by slow tempos and minimalist arrangements. Though Low's members disapprove of the term slowcore, the band are one of the earlier musicians to adopt and popularize the style, making them considerable contributors to the slowcore movement. Parker and Sparhawk's striking vocal harmonies represent perhaps the group's most distinctive element; critic Denise Sullivan writes that their shared vocals are "as chilling as anything Gram and Emmylou ever conspired on -- though that's not to say it's country-tinged, just straight from the heart."
Performance
Low are known for their impressive live performances. Rock club audiences sometimes watch the band while seated on the floor. During their early career, the band often faced unsympathetic and inattentive audiences in bars and clubs, to which they responded by bucking rock protocol and turning their volume down. The huge dynamic range of Low's early music made it susceptible to background noise and chatter, since many of their songs were very quiet. A performance in 1996 at the South by Southwest festival was overpowered when a Scandinavian hardc... band was booked downstairs. The Trust album, marked a turning point, and Low's music has developed a more emphatic sound.

Love Of Diagrams
Love of Diagrams is an indie rock band from Melbourne, Australia, formed in 2001. Their sound is characterized by a mix of energetic drumming, angular guitar and bass riffs, and call and response vocals. Their sound is notably influenced by New York No Wave and UK post punk.
Love of Diagrams began as a band back in early 2001 and quickly cemented their place as a live sensation amongst the Australian music scene. In 2003 they released their debut album, The Target Is You, on Melbourne-based Unstable Ape Records, which received much critical acclaim. They then played an extensive tour throughout Europe and Japan. Whilst touring across Australia, they have secured spots supporting many international bands including Death Cab for Cutie, Electrelane, Les Savy Fav, Stereolab, The Rogers Sisters and Sonic Youth. 2005 saw the release of their first EP, We Got Communication, and the band toured the USA twice, including shows at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Two tracks from the EP were also released as a 7" vinyl single in the UK through The Passport Label, and the band played a handful of London shows in November 2005. It was released in Australia February 2007 and everywhere else in April 2007. Their self-titled EP was released on Unstable Ape Records in September, 2006, in the USA in January 2007, and the UK in February 2007.

Love Is All
Love Is All is a five-piece indie rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Swedish band Love Is All are composed of Josephine Olausson (vocals, keyboard), Johan Lindwall (bass), Markus Görsch (drums), Fredrik Eriksson (saxophone), and Nicholaus Sparding (guitar/vocals). Olausson, Sparding, and Görsch had previously been members of Girlfriendo.
The trio promptly regrouped after that band's demise and added Lindwall, who had recorded in a side project with Olausson and Sparding called Cat Skills. They finally added the missing piece with saxophone player Fredrik Eriksson. While earning many rave reviews from the blogging community for their blend of art punk and indie rock, the band released several singles, one of which made single of the week in NME. The singles were collected on the debut LP Nine Times That Same Song, released by New York-based What's Your Rupture? in late 2005. After much touring through 2006 and 2007, Eriksson left the band and Love Is All continued on as a quartet. A Hundred Things Keep Me Up at Night and the remix album Love Is All Mixed Up arrived in 2008, along with Eriksson's replacement Åke Strömer (saxophone, keyboards). They are currently signed to the New York-based indie label What's Your Rupture?.

Louise Attaque
Louise Attaque is a French musical group founded in 1994. Its style could be described as between chanson and folk rock. Its first album has sold more than 2.5 million copies. Several of the group's albums were produced by Gordon Gano,
Lead singer of The Violent Femmes, a band whom Louise Attaque often cites as an influence and for whom their own band is named; "Louise" is a feminine name and "attaque" connotates violence. Lead singer and guitarist Gaëtan Roussel and bassist Robin Feix met in high school in Montargis. They moved to Paris after graduation where they met drummer Alexandre Margraff and formed a rock band: Caravage (named after the famous Italian painter Caravaggio). After briefly hiring a lead guitarist, the band met violinist Arnaud Samuel while recording in a Parisian studio.

Lou Reed
Lewis Allan "Lou" Reed (born March 2, 1942) is an American rock musician best known as the guitarist, vocalist and principal songwriter of The Velvet Underground as well as a successful solo artist whose career has spanned several decades. The band gained little mainstream attention during their career, but became one of the most influential of their era.
As the Velvet Underground's main songwriter, Reed analyzed subjects of personal experience that rarely had been examined so openly in rock and roll, including a variety of sexual topics and drug culture and use. As a guitarist, he was a pioneer of many guitar effects including distortion, high volume feedback, and nonstandard tunings. Reed began a long and eclectic solo career in 1971. He had a hit the following year with "Walk on the Wild Side", though for more than a decade he seemed to wilfully evade the mainstream commercial success its chart status offered him. One of rock's most volatile personalities, Reed's work as a solo artist has frustrated critics wishing for a return of The Velvet Underground. The most notable example is 1975's infamous double LP of recorded feedback loops, Metal Machine Music, upon which Reed later commented: "No one is supposed to be able to do a thing like that and survive." By the late 1980s, however, he had garnered recognition as an elder statesman of rock.

The Long Blondes
The Long Blondes were a five piece English indie rock band formed in Sheffield, United Kingdom circa 2003. They released their debut album on Rough Trade Records named Someone to Drive You Home in November, 2006 after several critically acclaimed singles.
After an extended European tour, they entered the studio with DJ/producer Erol Alkan and started working on their second album in London. "Couples" was released in April 2008 in the UK. On the 20th October 2008 the band announced their amicable split via a message on their website.
Film and music references
The Long Blondes are known for referencing films, singers, starlets and artists in their music. Screech once said that Hitchcock was a big inspiration when it came to referencing films in their music, he said "the whole film noir thing is very important because it's stylish but there's depth to it as well".
* "You Could Have Both" namechecks American singer Scott Walker. The song also alludes to the Morrissey song "My Love Life", with the line "And who was it who sang, I know you love one, so why can't you love two?" referencing the line "I know that you love one, So why can't you love two?". The song also mentions C.C. 'Bud' Baxter from The Apartment.
* "Lust In The Movies" mentions underground actresses such as 60's art star Edie Sedgwick, American actress Arlene Dahl & French actress Anna Karina. Also the repeated line "Nag nag nag" is a reference to the same repeated lyric in the song Nag Nag Nag by Sheffield band Cabaret Voltaire.
* "Long Blonde" mentions punk band Ramones.
* "Appropriation" is a homage to Hitchcock's 1958 film Vertigo. It has been said that the song is told from Judy's perspective, due to lines such as "When I met you, I never wore dresses like that" & "You can't have me, make me act the same". Lead singer Kate Jackson painted two different portraits for the CD single and 7" Vinyl, they both depicted Kim Novak's characters Madeleine Elster and Judy Barton.
* "Darts" mentions British darts player Bobby George and darts commentator Sid Waddell.
* "Only Lovers Left Alive" is a homage to the 1950s film From Here To Eternity.
* The two front covers of "Weekend Without Make-Up" are paintings of Diana Dors.
* "Madame Ray" is inspired by Lee Miller, the photographer and muse of avent-garde artist Man Ray.
* "Five Ways To End It" mentions Carry On star Hattie Jacques and also the producer of the Carry On films, Peter Rogers.
* "I Liked The Boys" ends with "Not the most original sentiment I've ever heard, so what's new" which is a line from a radio show by Terry Wogan. Whilst recording the second album, they found an old radio recording form the 50's in one of the old reel-to-reel tape recorders and decided to use parts of the show in some of their songs.
* "Round The Hairpin" begins with a line by British comedian Kenny Everett.
* "I'm Going To Hell" ends with a line by Peter Sellers.
* "Erin O'Connor" is a homage to Erin O'Connor which also mentions fellow model, Lily Cole. It begins with a line by Ronnie Corbett and David Swift from the BBC play No Sex Please, We're British.

Live
Live (also typeset as LIVE) is an American alternative rock/post-grunge band from York, Pennsylvania, comprising Ed Kowalczyk (lead vocals and guitar), Chad Taylor (lead guitar), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass) and Chad Gracey (drums and percussion).
Live has also toured with Ed's younger brother Adam Kowalczyk as a rhythm guitarist, as well as with British keyboardist Michael "Railo" Railton, and Christopher Thorn of Blind Melon. Live climbed from modest modern rock success to the mainstream spotlight worldwide on the strength of their 1994 breakthrough album, Throwing Copper, which has sold 8 million copies in the US. Climbing to #1 on the 52nd week on the chart, it is the third album to reach the top after spending a year or longer on the chart. The first two were Fleetwood Mac's self-titled album in 1976, peaking on the 58th week, and Paula Abdul's Forever Your Girl in 1989, which holds the record at 64 weeks. The band is most known for their hit singles "Selling the Drama", "Lightning Crashes" (which stayed at the top of Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks for 12 consecutive weeks), "I Alone", "Lakini's Juice", "The Dolphin's Cry", "Simple Creed", and "Heaven". Liquido
Liquido was an alternative rock band formed in Germany in 1996 by the four friends Wolle Maier (drums), Wolfgang Schrödl (vocals, guitar, piano), Stefan Schulte-Holthaus (bass) and Tim Eiermann (vocals, guitar).
Their only notable international hit, "Narcotic", was first released on a demo in 1996 and sold over 700.000 units when Virgin Records re-released it in 1998. Since then, Liquido hasn't been able to repeat this success, which led to a split from Virgin after two unsuccessful albums. 2005 saw the release of an equally ill-fated album on the new label Nuclear Blast. Nonetheless, Liquido gained somewhat of a cult following in their homeland. For example, "Narcotic" was elected "second best song of all times" by a local German radio station (the best song being "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin). In 2008 the band released their latest single Gameboy. In January 2009, the members of Liquido announced the breakup of the band on their official website.

Lipps Inc
Lipps Inc or Lipps, Inc. was a studio band that achieved one significant hit, "Funkytown" in 1980. The song is considered, by some, the last disco song to hit #1 in the U.S.
The group was formed in Minneapolis by Steven Greenberg, who wrote and produced all of the group's music, and who also played several musical instruments. The lead singer was Cynthia Johnson, and the rest of the group consisted of a changing group of session musicians, including guitarist David Rivkin. They achieved some popularity during the 1980s. The group released their debut album Mouth to Mouth in early 1980. Their hit from this album, "Funkytown" spent four weeks at Number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts in the United States and was awarded a platinum record. It reached number two in the United Kingdom and was a hit throughout the world. Their further singles failed to match their initial success (their only other Hot 100 entry was "Rock It", which peaked at #64), however they had more dance hits throughout the 1980s, including "How Long?" (originally a big hit for Ace) in 1981, which reached #4 on the U.S. dance chart. The group released their final full-length album, 4 in 1983.

Linkin Park
Linkin Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Since its formation in 1996, the band has sold more than 50 million albums & won two Grammy Awards. It achieved mainstream success with its debut album,
Hybrid Theory, which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005. Its following studio album, Meteora, continued the band's success, topping the Billboard 200’s album charts in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work around the world. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth greatest band of the music video era. Having adapted the nu metal and rap rock genres to a radio-friendly yet densely-layered style in Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the band explored other genres in their next studio album, Minutes to Midnight. The album topped the Billboard charts and had the third best debut week of any album that year. They have also collaborated with several other artists, most notably with rapper Jay-Z in their mashup album Collision Course, and many others on Reanimation.
