Bjork

(born 21 November 1965) is an Icelandic singer-songwriter, composer, actress and music producer, whose work includes seven solo albums and two film soundtracks.

She is best known for her expressive vocals, broad soprano vocal range, and a diverse and eclectic musical style which incorporates influences from many different genres, including pop, alternative rock, jazz, ambient, electronic, classical, folk and trip hop, as well as her eccentric costumes and music videos. Her singles "It's Oh So Quiet", "Army of Me" and "Hyperballad" all charted in the UK Top 10. Björk's style, using experimental dance beats, traditional elements and freeform singing, was influential in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

In 1999, Björk was asked to write and produce the musical score for the film Dancer in the Dark, a musical drama about an immigrant named Selma who is struggling to pay for an operation to prevent her son from going blind. Director Lars von Trier eventually asked her to consider playing the role of Selma, convincing her that the only true way to capture the character of Selma was to have the composer of the music play the character. Eventually, she accepted. Filming began in early 1999, and the film debuted in 2000 at the 53rd Cannes Film Festival. The film received the Palme d'Or, and Björk received the Best Actress Award for her role.

This commercial success was repeated in many other countries; their record company, EMI, estimated that by 1985 they had sold over one billion records worldwide. According to the Recording Industry Association of America,
The Beatles have sold more albums in the United States than any other band. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Beatles number one on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Baxter

Baxter is a Swedish electronica band composed of two drum and bass producers and an emotive female vocalist. The band set out to transform pop music by introducing melody, vocals and strong song-writing to a layered drum and bass/jungle-influenced rhythm.

In 1996, Ricky Tillblad, one of the Swedish recording industry's pre eminent designers, dub/raggae aficionado, and the man behind the Stockholm dub club, DubDeck, met Nina Ramsby, former guitarist and lead singer in the band Salt. At the time, Nina was looking for design and graphis arts work to finance her musical interests. She began working at Ricky's design firm, F+. The two began writing music together and that same year, Ricky bumped into Carl Herlöffson, guítar player /engineer/ producer and head of the Indie label Primal Music, at his club. The chance meeting resulted in Ricky signing on as partner in Carl's label. By late 1996, Ricky and Carl had become a prolific production team working as Eclectic Bob, cutting instrumental club-oriented drum & bass tracks for Primal Music.
One day, Nina came into work at the studio and was introduced to Carl, bringing about the first time all three had been together. For the next three months, Ricky, Carl and Nina experimented with sound, wrote, and recorded most of an album. By the spring of 1997, all that was left to do was a bit of polishing and mixing on the tracks. In the fall of 1997, the three of them as Baxter sent out a five-track promotional CD comprising selections from their full length album. After lengthy negotiations and numerous overseas flights Baxter signed with Maverick Records.

Battles

Battles is a critically acclaimed American experimental rock band. The band's line-up includes ex-Helmet drummer John Stanier, ex-Don Caballero guitarist Ian Williams, ex-Lynx guitarist Dave Konopka, and Tyondai Braxton (son of avant-garde jazz musician Anthony Braxton),

Who also plays guitar and keyboard and creates live voice samples. Following a string of EPs, the band released their debut album on the Warp Records label in February 2006, which was titled EP C / B EP. It is a compilation of their increasingly hard-to-find early releases, EP C, B EP and the single Tras. Their first full-length album Mirrored, recorded by Keith Souza at Machines with Magnets, was released on May 14, 2007. The album received positive reviews and appeared on several top album lists for 2007.
The first single from the album, "Atlas," was released on February 21, 2007 as streaming audio, and the accompanying streaming video was released on February 28, 2007. It was voted "Best Single of the Week" by NME magazine, and received a glowing review in the British Clash Magazine, as well as ranking at number one in the second Dandelion Radio Festive Fifty. The song was performed by the band on BBC television's Later With Jools Holland in November 2007. The song also went on to be featured in the Media Molecule developed video game Little Big Planet, available for the Playstation 3.

Bat For Lashes

Natasha was born to a Pakistani father and English mother on october 25th 1979. Khan graduated in music and visual arts; while at university her experimental work was influenced by artists such as Steve Reich and Susan Hiller,

And she produced multi-media work centred on sound installations, animations and performance. She went on to work as a nursery school teacher, and it was during this period that she began writing the material for her first album. "Whenever I'm writing music it's a very visual place in my mind," said Khan. "It has a location full of characters and colours and landscapes, so those two things really complement each other, and they help the other one to blossom and support the other. They are like brother and sister."
