Tonight: Franz Ferdinand is the third album by Scottish rock group Franz Ferdinand. It was released through Domino Records on 26 January 2009 in the UK. "Ulysses" was released on the 19 January 2009 as the first single and is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. It is a concept album loosely based around a night of partying and the morning effects after. The album has generally been well received by music critics.

The High End of Low is the seventh studio album by Marilyn Manson. It was recorded in the Hollywood Hills throughout 2008. Sean Beavan, who mixed Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, and Eat Me, Drink Me, is co-producer of the album. The album was released on May 26th, 2009. Dark Was the Night is the twentieth compilation release benefiting the Red Hot Organization, an international charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. Featuring exclusive recordings by a number of independent artists and production by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National, the compilation was released on 16 February 2009 (UK) and 17 February 2009 (US) as a double CD, three vinyl LPs, or as a digital download. John Carlin, the founder of the Red Hot Organization, was the executive producer for the album. The title is derived from the Blind Willie Johnson song "Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground," which is covered on this collection by the Kronos Quartet.

Bromst is an album by the American electronic musician Dan Deacon. Bromst was partially recorded live, with the help of the below ensemble, as well as at a Montana studio called Snow Ghost. Deacon spent time there adding final touches and mastering Bromst. For a few of the tracks on Bromst, Deacon uses a player piano. The piano had to be re-wired so that each line was tracked individually, so the piano could keep up with what Deacon composed, which engineer Brett Allen claims to be impossibly fast to play on one piano.

Fever Ray is the debut solo album from Fever Ray, an alias of Karin Dreijer Andersson of the electronic duo The Knife. The first single, "If I Had a Heart", was released on December 15, 2008. The second single, "When I Grow Up" was released in 2009. The music video for "When I Grow Up" was directed by Martin de Thurrah.

Two Suns is the second album by English solo artist Bat for Lashes (pseudonym of Natasha Khan), released on 6 April 2009. It is the follow-up to Mercury Music Prize nominated album Fur and Gold. According to the press release, Two Suns is "a record of modern-day fables exploring dualities on a number of levels two lovers, two planets, two sides of a personality," bringing reflection about "the philosophy of the self and duality, examining the need for both chaos and balance, for both love and pain, in addition to touching on metaphysical ideas concerning the connections between all existence."
