They write and record songs that are timeless pop rich in melody and drawn from influences such as the Beach Boys, Bacharach, Gainsbourg, Television, Stereolab, Barry White, Carole King, Blondie, Francoise Hardy, Air and Madonna. The nucleus of the band is Cavanagh and the alluring 26 year old Heidrun Anna. She's the lyricist and melody arranger, and together they combine forces to weave these elements into song form.
The pair met in Liverpool in 1998 where Heidrun had studied at the Liverpool Institute Of The Performing Arts. She became involved in the city's close knit music scene and inevitably the two began to work together. Via Paul came Martin Lynch and Paul Maguire (former drummer with Liverpool faves The Stairs - remember the epic "Weed Bus"?) whilst Jonas Theis, a classically trained pianist, completed the line-up having originally known Heidrun at LIPA where he too was studying. On the strength of a three song demo, Gloss were signed to Nude Records at the beginning of the year.
