Barclay James Harvest

Barclay James Harvest is a British rock band specialising in Symphonic/Melodic Rock with folk/progressive/classical influences. The band was founded in Saddleworth, a civil parish now in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, in September 1966 by John Lees, Les Holroyd, Stuart "Woolly" Wolstenholme, and Mel Pritchard (1948-2004).

The band released a single "Breathless"/"When the City Sleeps" under the pseudonym of "Bombadil" in 1972. "Breathless", an instrumental, was credited to "Terry Bull" (actually John Lees). The B side "When the City Sleeps" was credited to "Lester Forest" (actually Woolly Wolstenholme), who also played every instrument and sang. This obscure track made an appearance on the soundtrack in the 2007 series Life on Mars, although it was not featured on the CD release.

Barbara Morgenstern

Born in Hagen, Germany, Morgenstern describes herself as self-taught, although she had piano lessons as a child and jazz lessons at the school of music in Hagen, in addition to having played in a band, she decided on a career in music in 1991 after completing her schooling at the Ernst Meister Gymnasium in Hagen-Haspe.

From 1992 until 1994 Barbara Morgenstern lived in Hamburg, working on her own music as well as singing in an a cappella group. She took part in a six-week popular music course at the Hamburg Hochschule. In 1994 she moved to Berlin, where she initially played keyboards in a band, and from 1996 onward she concentrated on her own music. In 2004, at the invitation of the Goethe-Institut, Morgenstern undertook a 34-date world tour together with Maximilian Hecker. Bill Wells' 2004 mini-album Pick Up Sticks featured contributions from Morgenstern on two tracks. She also joined Paul Wirkus and To Rococo Rot's Stefan Schneider in September Collective, a project which had its origins in encores that they joined together to play at their own individual concerts while on tour in Poland. September Collective's eponymous debut album was released on the Geographic label, an offshoot of Domino Records run by the Pastels' Stephen Pastel. Morgenstern's next solo album was The Grass Is Always Greener (2006).

Band of Horses

Band of Horses, previously known as Horses, is an American indie rock band formed in 2004 in Seattle by Ben Bridwell, Mat Brooke, Creighton Barrett and Rob Hampton. Joe Arnone joined the band in February 2006. It is currently signed to Sub Pop Records. The band often draws comparisons to My Morning Jacket, largely due to the vocal similarities between Bridwell and My Morning Jacket lead singer Jim James, as well as the occasional Southern rock tendencies the two groups have in common.

Allmusic has compared Bridwell's vocals to early Neil Young and Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips.
In a 2008 Rolling Stone interview, the band stated they will be entering the studio in October to begin recording their third album. Ben Bridwell stated he had about 27 songs written already.

Banco de Gaia

Banco de Gaia is an electronic music band from England, formed by Toby Marks (born 1964, South London) in 1991. In 1978 Marks began his musical career, as a drummer in a heavy metal band. Marks moved to Portugal in 1986, and played Beatles music for tourists. He first delved into electronic music in 1989, when he bought a digital sampler. The first tune he recorded on it was called "Maxwell House".

The music of Banco de Gaia is best categorized as ambient dub, but Marks works to cross genres, often using Arabic and Middle Eastern samples against a bass heavy reggae, rock, or trance rhythm to produce deeply textured tracks that progress layer upon layer. In 1997, Banco De Gaia put together a five piece band that included Ted Duggan (drums) and Ashley Hopkins (bass). The band reduced in number to just Marks, Duggan, and Hopkins in 1999, and then just Marks and Duggan from 2000 until 2003; when Marks went back to being a solo artist.

Bananarama

Bananarama are an English girl group who have had success on the pop and dance charts since 1982. Although there have been line-up changes during the years, the group enjoyed its most popular success as a trio, made up of lifelong friends Siobhan Fahey, Keren Woodward and Sara Dallin.

The group has had ten Top 10 singles in the UK singles chart to date, as well as three U.S. Top 10 hits, one of which hit number one. Some of their biggest international hits include "Cruel Summer", "Venus", "Love in the First Degree" and "I Heard a Rumour". In total, Bananarama have sold more than 40 million records worldwide. They are known for their vocal style which features all members singing in unison (rather than three-part harmonies). Lead vocals and background vocals were recorded in this way, and much of Bananarama's early material was recorded with all three members at the same microphone at the same time.

Badly Drawn Boy

Damon Gough (stage name Badly Drawn Boy), is a Mercury Prize-winning rock and roll singer/songwriter. He was born 2 October 1969, in Dunstable, Bedfordshire.

He grew up in the Breightmet area of Bolton, Lancashire, England. Following the success of his early EPs, Gough's debut album, The Hour of Bewilderbeast, was released in June 2000, accompanied by four singles (including a re-release of Once Around the Block). The album was critically acclaimed and Badly Drawn Boy was successful in winning the 2000 Mercury Music Prize, beating his contemporaries Doves to the £20,000 prize. The album sold well (300,000 copies) and is widely considered to be his defining work. After a short break, Damon returned to score the film adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel About a Boy. Impressed by his past work, the Weitz brothers asked Gough to score the film, a task which he undertook alone. Three singles from the album were released over the course of 2002. His third album, Have You Fed the Fish?, introduced more guitars and an increasingly mainstream pop sound which was not welcomed by all critics. The album is a play on Gough's minor celebrity status and namechecks fellow musicians such as Madonna and John Lennon. Another three singles and a long American tour accompanied the album.
Badly Drawn Boy album, Born in the U.K., which aims to explain Gough’s experience of growing up in the United Kingdom. The album was promoted with a small UK tour, profits from which were donated to Oxfam, a charity which "offers the chance for thousands of people to use music to achieve something together, which is an idea that gets me excited," said Gough.
Damon has recently announced plans for an "EP or mini LP" to be released by the end of this year.

Babyshambles

Babyshambles are an English indie rock band established in London. The band was formed by Pete Doherty during a hiatus from his former band The Libertines, but Babyshambles has since become his main project.

Babyshambles draws inspiration from the punk and ska genres, and has released two albums, one EP and a number of singles. The band has received a great deal of attention from the British tabloid press as a result of interest in Doherty's personal life. Babyshambles have sold nearly 19 million copies of their two albums. In January and February 2008 Babyshambles played their biggest European tour to date. Babyshambles are due to play at a lot of festivals this Spring and this Summer, especially in France. In June they will play at Hove Festival in Norway. In August they will headline the RadioOne/NME Stage of the Reading and Leeds Festivals. However, a large amount of their scheduled tours may be cancelled due to Doherty's recent imprisonment. On April 8th, it was announced that Babyshambles was going to release A CD/DVD live untitled "Oh! What A Lovely Tour" on June 2nd. The concert was recorded during the winter leg of the UK arena tour at the SECC Glasgow on the 2nd of December. Growning speculation suggested that Babyshambles would be unable to make all tour dates for 2008, but in a recent interview with NME "Doherty added that he will honour all his booked live commitments with Babyshambles, but will not book further gigs until his solo album is finished". The band is heading into studios to record 9 demos for their third upcoming album.

Babybird

Babybird is a British Indie band formed in 1995. The band is fronted by Stephen Jones, who has also released records as a solo artist, using his own name and the name Baby Bird.

Ones had begun writing songs and recording home demos as part of an experimental theatre group in Sheffield. A collection of these demos (I Was Born a Man) was released in the summer of 1995, under the name Baby Bird. Following a warm critical reception for this record, he recruited a band made up of Huw Chadbourn (keyboards), Robert Gregory (drums), John Pedder (bass) and Luke A R Scott (guitar), in order to tour and promote his work.
During 1995, two further albums of demo recordings were released under the name Baby Bird (Bad Shave and Fatherhood) and two in 1996 (The Happiest Man Alive and Dying Happy).
By the end of the year, a decent public following had been built up, as well as quite considerable excitement within the press and music industry. Babybird were signed to Echo Records (a division of the Chrysalis Group), and the first "proper" single, a full-band recording of "Goodnight", which had appeared in demo form on Fatherhood, was eventually released in the summer of 1996, becoming a minor chart hit in the UK.

B. J. Thomas

B. J. Thomas (Billy Joe Thomas, b. August 7, 1942, in Hugo, Oklahoma) is an American popular singer known for his chart-topping hits in the 1960s and 1970s.

During the mid-1990s, rumors cropped up that Thomas had died, but to the best of common knowledge, he is alive and well. The singer has continued to record and tour, maintaining a smaller but loyal fan base. He is very popular in Brazil, where his songs "Oh Me Oh My" and "Long Ago Tomorrow" (by Burt Bacharach and Hal David) were big hits in the '70s. The singer also found some new fans in Contemporary Christian Music. In 2002, he charted his first single since the late 1980s, with "You Call That A Mountain" from an album of the same name. In October 2007, B.J. Thomas released "Love To Burn", an album of all new material. On The January 15, 1998 edition of the Howard Stern Show, he would not sing a song about Rosie O'Donnell that Stern had requested by saying "I am a Christian and I don't want to do that." Stern then replied saying "you're no fun!"

B. B. King

B. B. King (born Riley B. King, September 16, 1925) is an American blues guitarist and singer-songwriter. Critical acclaim and widespread popularity have cemented his reputation as one of the most respected and successful blues musicians.

Rolling Stone magazine named him the third-greatest guitarist of "the 100 greatest guitarists of all time". The son of Alfred King and Nora Ella King, B. B. King has had two wives to date: Martha Lee Denton, 1946 to 1952, and Sue Carol Hall, 1958 to 1966. Both marriages ended because of the heavy demands made on the marriage by King's 250 performances a year. It is reported that he has fathered 15 children by different women. King is a licensed pilot, a known gambler, a vegetarian, non-drinker, and non-smoker. He has lived with Type II Diabetes for over twenty years and is a visible spokesman in the fight against the disease, appearing in advertisements for diabetes-management products.
His favorite singer is Frank Sinatra. In his autobiography King speaks about how he was, and is, a "Sinatra nut" and how he went to bed every night listening to Sinatra's classic album In the Wee Small Hours. King has credited Sinatra for opening doors to black entertainers who weren't given the chance to play in "white dominated" venues. Sinatra got B. B. King into the main showrooms in Vegas during the 1960s. Over 52 years B.B. King played at least 15,000 performances. He has made guest appearances in numerous popular television shows, including The Cosby Show, The Young and the Restless, General Hospital, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sesame Street, Married With Children and Sanford and Son.

Azure Ray

Azure Ray was an American dream pop duo, consisting of musicians Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink. The pair met at the age of 15 at the Alabama School of Fine Arts.

They fronted a band called Little Red Rocket, often compared to Veruca Salt, in their hometown of Birmingham, Alabama in the mid and late 1990s and released two albums with the band on Tim/Kerr records. Azure Ray started in Athens, Georgia, but relocated to Omaha, Nebraska and joined the music scene there. Their sound is sparse and understated, with intimate lyrics, elements of alt-country and folk Americana, and occasional forays into minimalist electronica territory. Taylor and Fink are also in another Saddle Creek band called Now It's Overhead, with Andy LeMaster. The two have collaborated with Moby and co-wrote the song, "Great Escape" on the album 18. They have also appeared on numerous Bright Eyes records. Fink also works with Japancakes. Azure Ray disbanded in 2004, leaving Fink and Taylor to work on solo and other collaborative projects, including working in Now It's Overhead and Maria Taylor's solo recordings. The October 2008 Saddle Creek newsletter announced that Fink and Taylor are set to reform the band for a one-off show in Los Angeles on November 30, 2008.

Aztec Camera

Aztec Camera was a Scottish New Wave music band from Glasgow. Although generally considered to be borne out of the post-punk movement, Aztec Camera's music is mostly acoustic oriented and might be better described as guitar based indie pop.

Popular songs by Aztec Camera include "Oblivious", "Still On Fire", "Walk Out to Winter", "Somewhere in My Heart", and "Good Morning Britain" (a duet with former The Clash guitarist Mick Jones). "Somewhere in My Heart", the second single from Love, remains their biggest hit, reaching #3 on the UK Singles Chart. "Good Morning Britain" could be considered a "comeback hit" for them, as previous single "The Crying Scene" had only reached #70 in the UK, while the former hit reached #19. A 'Best of' collection was released in 1999.

Autechre

Autechre are an English electronic music group consisting of Rob Brown and Sean Booth, both natives of Rochdale, England. The group is one of the most prominent acts signed with Warp Records, a label known for its pioneering electronic music artists.

Some journalists consider Autechre to be a paragon of IDM and one of the driving forces behind its development, though Booth and Brown are ambivalent in relating their sound to established genres. Reactions to their music have varied. Many of their tracks contain complex or chaotic rhythms and close harmonies which some hear as random and noisy. Fans of their recent work tend to find the value of their music to lie in its unique fusion of rhythmic and melodic elements, percussive noises being tweaked to sound like they have pitches, and clustered, often enharmonic synthesizer patches implying numerous melodic lines and chord structures simultaneously. A recurring element in Autechre's work is the use of extremely short snippets of sound to create a fragmented, grainy effect.

Audioslave

Audioslave was an American hard rock supergroup that formed in Los Angeles, California in 2001. It consisted of ex-Soundgarden frontman and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell and the former instrumentalists of Rage Against the Machine:

Tom Morello (lead guitar), Tim Commerford (bass and backing vocals) and Brad Wilk (drums). Critics initially described Audioslave as an amalgamation of Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden, but by the band's second album, Out of Exile, noted that it had established a separate identity. The band's trademark sound was created by blending 1970s hard rock with 1990s grunge. Moreover, Morello incorporated his well-known, unconventional guitar solos into this mix. As with Rage Against the Machine, the band prided themselves on the fact that all sounds on their albums were produced using only guitar, bass, drums and vocals; no samples were ever used. After Audioslave released three successful albums, received three Grammy nominations, sold more than eight million records worldwide, and became the first American rock band to perform an open-air concert in Cuba, Cornell issued a statement in February 2007 that he was permanently leaving the band "due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences". As the other three members were busy with the Rage Against the Machine reunion, and Morello and Cornell had each released solo albums in 2007, Audioslave was officially disbanded.

Audio Bullys

Audio Bullys are an electronic music group from the United Kingdom, consisting of Simon Franks and Tom Dinsdale. The duo released their debut album Ego War in 2003 to positive reviews which helped to establish them as one of the best new acts in dance music.

The album fused elements of breaks, hip-hop, punk, garage and house with clever beats and samples. In 2005 they released Generation, the follow-up to their debut album. Despite reaching number 3 in the UK Singles Chart with their 2005 hit, "Shot You Down", which samples the Nancy Sinatra version of the song "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)", the album was poorly received. Generation was seen as a step away from what made Ego War appealing due to the pace being slower and a number of tracks being downbeat in mood. In a 2008 interview, Simon Franks suggested that they listened to their label, Virgin, too much: "We should never have listened to anyone else". "Virgin admitted they didn't know how to market house music, and it slowly turned into us making this slower album. The daft thing is, Shot You Down was the big hit, this old-school club track, but it was followed by a moody, dark record. It confused everyone."
In making Generation, the group worked with Suggs of Madness collaborating on the track "This Road". Their new album, Sunday Night Fever, was supposed to be out September 2008, but has been delayed till 2009.

Atmosphere

Atmosphere is an American hip hop band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The members are rapper Slug (born Sean Daley, September 7, 1972) and DJ/producer Ant (born Anthony Davis).

Active in various forms since 1993, they are one of the most commercially successful and long-lived independent hip hop acts. During 2005's 'Pour Me Another' tour, Atmosphere was accompanied by a live band, featuring Nate Collis on guitar, Brett Johnson on bass, Erick Anderson on keyboards, and Brian McLeod on drums. The live setup brought a jazzy, more improvisational feel to Atmosphere's sound. Slug has said he wanted to play with a live band to add more of a challenge to playing live.
As of the Paint Your City Gold series of "release parties" in support of When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold, the live band has been re-rostered with Ant laying down the percussion as DJ, Nate Collins on guitar and back up vocals, Erick Anderson on keyboards and synths & Mankwe Ndosi as the 'human samples.'Slug has also been featured on albums by Brother Ali, Eyedea & Abilities, Evidence, Aesop Rock, Unknown Prophets, Oddjobs, Vakill, DoseOne, Jel, P.O.S., X-Ecutioners, Kanser, Blueprint, Heiruspecs, Jean Grae, Static & Nat Ill, DJ Vadim, Booka B, El-P, Roosevelt Franklin, Minnesota indie rock band Lifter Puller, several Living Legends albums as well as Living Legends solo projects such as The CMA.

Athlete

Athlete are an English indie rock band formed in Deptford, London, comprising Joel Pott (lead vocals and guitar), Carey Willetts (bass and backing vocals), Stephen Roberts (drums and backing vocals) and Tim Wanstall (keyboards and backing vocals). Recently, the quartet have recruited Jonny Pilcher of Weevil as a live guitarist.

Released on 3 September 2007, Beyond the Neighbourhood was a self-produced collection of low-key songs, viewed as a disappointment by some, and an interesting sidestep by others. It entered at #5 on the UK album chart. Athlete at the Academy, 2007
They embarked on tours of the UK in late 2007 and early 2008 in support of the album. It has also been announced that they will play during the 2008 TT motorcycle racing festival on the Isle of Man.

At the Drive-In

At the Drive-In was an influential American band from El Paso, Texas, that was active from 1993 to 2001. Their extremely energetic and often violent stage shows, with their blend of Art Rock and Punk has proven them to be one the most important bands of the modern day Hardc... Scene.

The music of At the Drive-In is very complex. Although heavily influenced by post-hardc... in the vein of Fugazi, there is a strong progressive rock influence as well. Additionally, ethnic musical styles such as Latin Salsa and Lebanese Chaabi also feature heavily into At The Drive-In's sound. Furthermore, on the Vaya EP and their album Relationship of Command, the band incorporated elements of electronica and dub into their sound. Like At the Drive-In, contemporaries such as Les Savy Fav and The Dismemberment Plan were also experimenting with those same sounds within the context of art punk around the same time. Singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala's lyrics are renown for their surreal, cryptic quality and usage of a wide vocabulary. Although At the Drive-In's lyrics have been interpreted as political, specifically leftist, in nature, Bixler-Zavala has been quoted as saying "We're not Communists, we're not pinko... we can't be, 'cause you pay to come and see us and we sell t-shirts at our gigs".

Asian Dub Foundation

Asian Dub Foundation are a British electronica band, that plays a mix of breakbeat, dub, dancehall and ragga, also using rock instruments, acknowledging a punk influence.

Rebel Warrior, was inspired by the 1920s poem, "Bidrohi" by Bengali poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam, an advocate for Indian independence. The song discusses the racial violence and inequality that the group state still plagues their British communities. Asian Dub Foundation have used their music in conjunction with education and social work for youth in the East End of London, as well as other British anti-racism campaigns. They challenge the argument that Asians are passive onlookers in popular culture who are hardly involved in the music industry. Their music functions to bridge the black influence with their own Asian style, using such lyrics as "I grab the mic to commence with the mic check. Supply rhymes, man you never heard yet, you've never thought an Asian could do this." Reckoning a traditional hip-hop MC style with their own Asian influence and simultaneously mixing in various other musical styles, thus disbanding the polarization of the racial terms and addressing the "ongoing racialised violence and inequality evident in everyday experience in their neighbourhood".

Ash

Ash are an alternative rock band that formed in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland in 1992. The media originally pegged Ash's music as Britpop when the band first found mainstream success. They have had a devoted following since the mid-90's.

The band at the time of the release of Twilight of the Innocents announced with their future releases that they would be ditching their album format and releasing individual singles, this format could begin around March 2009, with the band currently back in studio working on the new tracks, bassist Mark Hamilton stated in an interview with 'Noize Makes Enemies' "we’re just taking track at a time and seeing what happens, no limits to where or what it’ll sound like. A few of the songs are barely recognisable as Ash which is pretty exciting to see how people react when they hear them." After performing two shows dedicated to the bands album "1977" at London Roundhouse on Friday 5th September 2008, and then London Astoria for the following day the band have said their is a possibility of a similar style shows, particularly for the bands album "Free All Angels".

Army Of Lovers

Army Of Lovers was a Swedish dance music group founded in 1987 by 3 members of a band called Barbie, namely Alexander Bard, Jean-Pierre Barda and Camilla Henemark.

The name of the band alludes to a documentary about Rosa von Praunheim, which in turn alludes to the Theban Band. They were famous for their controversial appearance, their music videos (some of which were banned by MTV), directed by Fredrik Boklund and their costumes, created by Camilla Thulin.
They also joined forces again in 2007 for 2 shows, one at G-A-Y in London and one in Moscow. La Camilla, the singer on the first number of hit singles, was replaced by an inflatable doll. Alexander, Dominika and Jean-Pierre were present. The latter, asked after the show about a possible reunion, stated that there's none in the foreseeable future and that their work is a "jewel in time" that won't be repeated. Aqualung

Aqualung is the fourth studio album by the rock band Jethro Tull, released in 1971. The first side of the LP contains a series of six character sketches,

Including two sketches of people of questionable repute (title character Aqualung and Cross-Eyed Mary) and two autobiographical tracks including "Cheap Day Return", written by band leader Ian Anderson while returning from a visit to his critically ill father. The overall message of the lyrics on the second side is said to be "pro-God but anti-church", and makes the statement that organized religion can actually restrict a person's relationship with his God instead of enhancing it. Anderson has denied any attempt to create a concept album.

Apollo 440 (alternately known as Apollo Four Forty or @440) are an English musical band formed in 1990 in Liverpool by brothers Trevor and Howard Gray with fellow Liverpudlians Noko and James Gardner, although Gardner left after the recording of the first album.

All members sing and add a profusion of samples, electronics, and computer-based sounds. The name comes from the Greek god Apollo and the frequency of concert pitch the A note at 440 Hz, often denoted as "A440", and the Sequential Circuits sampler/sequencer, the Studio 440.
After relocating to the Camden area of London, Apollo 440 recorded their debut album, Millennium Fever, and released it in 1994 on their own Stealth Sonic Recordings label (distributed by Epic Records). They have successfully invaded both the pop charts and the dancefloor with their combination of rock, techno, and ambient. They also changed the writing of their name from Apollo 440 to Apollo Four Forty in 1996, though switched back for their latest album. Apollo 440 have always played live with a number of different line-ups - in the early days featuring guest vocals by legendary MC Stevie Hyper-D and in 1994 the basic trio of founding members Noko, Howard and Trevor were, for the first time joined by Cliff on electronic and acoustic drums. Between 1997 and 2000 they then toured extensively round the world as an eight piece live band, now joined by Mary Byker (Vocals), Harry K (DJ & Vocals), Paul Kodish (Drums) and Rej (Bass).

Aphex Twin

Richard David James (born 18 August 1971), better known by his moniker Aphex Twin, is an electronic musician who has been described as "the most inventive and influential figure in contemporary electronic music".

He founded the electronic record label Rephlex Records in 1991 with friend Grant Wilson-Claridge. Aphex Twin is known for covering many different styles and subgenres of electronic music, often having a different theme with each release. The name Aphex Twin is derived from Aphex Systems Limited, a brand of audio signal processing equipment. It is used with permission, as was recognized on the back sleeve of his Richard D. James and drukqs albums. He has explained in interviews that the Twin is in memory of his older brother, also named Richard James, who died at birth. American fans of Aphex Twin made an Internet discussion list in August 1993 to talk about Aphex Twin and Warp Records, called the Intelligent Dance Music List. From then on, Internet fans, mostly Americans, have called Aphex Twin "intelligent dance music" and used "drill and bass" to describe James' novel approach to drum and bass. In the UK, Aphex Twin's music is normally referred to as electronic music due to Aphex Twin's influence coming from electronic musicians such as Parmegiani and his study of electronics in technical college. The official genre name from Rephlex Records is Braindance. Aphex Twin refers to his own breakbeat tracks as breakbeat, jungle, or drum and bass interchangeably.

Antony and the Johnsons is a Mercury Prize-winning music act from New York City. The band is essentially a vehicle for singer Antony Hegarty.

He appeared as a prison inmate, performing an acoustic version of the song "The Rapture" in Steve Buscemi's movie Animal Factory. In the Wachowski brothers' screen adaptation of V for Vendetta, the main characters dance to Antony's "Bird Gerhl" from I am a Bird Now as it plays on V's illicit Wurlitzer. In November 2006 Antony and the Johnsons performed a successful European tour of 'Turning', a multimedia collaboration with video producer Charles Atlas, which focused on themes of transformation and metamorphosis:
Antony gave a break-out performance in the 2006 concert documentary, Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man, a star-studded tribute to Leonard Cohen that was later released on DVD along with an accompanying soundtrack. Antony's interpretation of "If it Be Your Will" was considered one of the highlights of the show. The 5-song Another World EP was released on October 7, 2008. Antony and the Johnsons' third album, The Crying Light, is anticipated on January 21, 2009. Additional details have yet to be made known, but Antony has described the theme of the album as being "about landscape and the future".

Antipop Consortium

Antipop Consortium are an alternative hip hop group. The group formed in 1997 when Beans, High Priest, M. Sayyid and producer Earl Blaize met at a poetry slam in New York City.

They are notable for their stream of consciousness lyrics and musical references to contemporary composition methods. They released several tape singles and two albums primarily on Dan the Automator's experimental hip-hop label 75 Ark before being signed by Warp Records in 2000. Their releases were met with mixed reviews from the mainstream music and underground hip-hop press alike, although they are noted for their inventiveness and the experimental electronic productions contributed by all members. They were frequently compared to other rappers with unorthodox lyrics, such as Kool Keith, MF Doom and Aesop Rock. In 2001, they opened for Radiohead during the European leg of their Amnesiac tour and subsequently toured with DJ Shadow. The group disbanded due to creative differences in August 2002, with Beans pursuing a solo career while High Priest and M. Sayyid formed Airborn Audio, which released a single album, Good Fortune, on Ninja Tune in 2005, and toured with The Faint and Bright Eyes. She was a classmate with Rowland S. Howard who would later form The Boys Next Door and The Birthday Party with Nick Cave. Lane became Cave's girlfriend and moved to London with the band in 1980. She co-wrote the lyrics of three songs for The Birthday Party ("Dead Joe", "Kiss Me Black" and "A Dead Song") before they imploded in 1983. With Harvey, Lane has recorded a series of albums that showcased the dichotomy between her baby doll voice and the sexual longing of her lyrics. These include a pair of albums of Serge Gainsbourg's covers, 1995's The Intoxicated Man and 1997's Pink Elephants. Harvey also produced Lane's 1993 collection, Dirty Pearl, which compiled tracks from Lane's work with Einstürzende Neubauten, Die Haut, as well as exclusive album tracks. Harvey co-wrote several songs, including the UK hit single, "The World's A Girl". Lane's most recent collaboration with Harvey is 2001's Sex O' Clock. Lane and Cave split sometime in the 1980s. Anouk's interest in music began because her mother was a blues singer. Anouk initially sang at weddings and parties with the band Shotgun Wedding, prior to meeting Barry Hay from the Golden Earring, a friend of her ex-husband Edwin Jansen. Hay believed Anouk to have talent, and offered to write some songs for her, one of which was Mood Indigo; written in collaboration with George Kooymans (also from the Golden Earring). Both as a solo artist and with Eurythmics, Lennox has sold over 80 million records. Her vocal range is contralto. She was born Ann-Lynne Griselda Lennox on Christmas Day, 1954, in Aberdeen, Scotland. Her father worked at the shipyard, and her mother was a cook until she became a housewife. Lennox was an only child and the family lived in a small two-roomed apartment in a block of flats with communal laundry facilities. Her father and his family were musical and enjoyed singing. Her father also learned to play the bagpipes, which Lennox enjoyed listening to. Despite her family's financial status, Lennox had piano lessons at school from the age of seven years at the cost of £4.00 per term. She was interested in singing and, with plenty of time by herself, passed some of the time by singing along to the popular music of the time, including music by The Beatles. She was an unhappy teenager, partly because of a struggle over boundaries for her independence with her overprotective father. She attended Aberdeen High School for Girls, now Harlaw Academy. In 1987, he lent his services to British synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys, arranging the orchestration on the dreamy and melancholic track "It Couldn't Happen Here". The recording foreshadows "Laura Palmer's Theme" from Twin Peaks in 1990, when he also arranged the strings on two tracks on the Pet Shop Boys' acclaimed Behaviour album.
In 1993, Badalamenti collaborated with thrash metal band Anthrax on the Twin Peaks-inspired track "Black Lodge" from the Sound of White Noise album. In 1995, he composed, orchestrated and produced Marianne Faithfull's album, titled A Secret Life. In 1996, Badalamenti teamed up with Tim Booth of the British rock band James. Anathema

Anathema are an English band from the city of Liverpool, which, together with Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride, helped to develop the death/doom sound, a subgenre of doom metal.

However, their album Eternity was a departure from doom and metal, and signaled their transition to atmospheric rock. Anathema was formed in 1990 as a doom metal band, initially under the name 'Pagan Angel'. In November of that year, the band recorded their first demo, entitled An Iliad of Woes. This demo caught the attention of several bands from the English metal scene, allowing Anathema to play gigs with bands like Bolt Thrower and Paradise Lost.

Ambulance LTD

Ambulance LTD is an indie rock group formed in Spanish Harlem, New York in 2000. The band was founded by singer and guitarist Michael Di Liberto and Dave Longstreth of Ohio.

The two left the band and were replaced by Marcus Congleton, Benji Lysaght (guitar), Matt Dublin (bass), Andrew Haskell (keyboards), and Darren Beckett (drums). They signed to TVT Records after getting positive reviews from their live shows and recorded a self titled EP Ambulance LTD in 2003. Recently the rest of the group decided they did not want to carry on with the band, though Congleton carried on Ambulance LTD. He's still working with The Velvet Underground's John Cale in LA writing new material. In 2008, Ambulance LTD gained new members, Ezra Oklan on drums, Ian Fenger on guitar, Xander McMahon on keyboard and Jeremy Kay on bass. They will go on tour in early April 2008 with their first performance at Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge, MA on April 2. There's a whole slew of songs that Congleton recorded with John Cale in LA in 2006, of which these haven't yet officially surfaced.
In 2008 their song "Heavy Lifting" was featured in a scene of the feature film "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"
