My Dying Bride

My Dying Bride is a British doom metal band formed in 1990. My Dying Bride is one of the three bands responsible for the formation of death/doom metal, along with Anathema and Paradise Lost.

Their music is characterised by romantic, sensual lyrics, often using gothic themes and imagery, and an obsessive attention to atmospheric detail. The lyrics are often inspired by Old English in its choice of words and metaphores, and in their song "For My Fallen Angel" (from Like Gods of the Sun) they included a quotation from a Shakespeare poem.To date, My Dying Bride has released one demo, three EPs, several singles, ten full-length studio albums, one box set, four compilation albums, one live album, one live CD/DVD release, and several video releases. The band recently released its tenth studio album titled For Lies I Sire. Although their early demos were built on slow yet otherwise traditional death metal, with uncharacteristic death grunts, later albums would start mixing death grunts with clean vocals, starting with Turn Loose the Swans. The Angel and the Dark River saw the abandonment of death grunts altogether, with The Light at the End of the World seeing their return. With their first full-length album (As the Flower Withers, 1992), they took a step towards classical influences with the frequent usage of keyboards and violin. The music of My Dying Bride has been noted as "dripping with treachery and pain" from a "lyrical fascination with deceit and transgressions of every variety". According to Last.fm, they are known for their "slow yet extremely heavy riffs and haunting lyrics. Relentlessly slow, thick, heavy chords allied with remarkably morose lyrics make My Dying Bride a unique proposition and certainly a challenge to the listener".

Lacuna Coil

Lacuna Coil is an Italian gothic metal band from Milan, Italy, formed in 1994. Formerly known as Sleep of Right and Ethereal, the band was inspired by the combination of gothic imagery and music, and the members have been known, musically,

For composing midtempo songs consisting of guitar lines overlaid with prominent keyboard work, and contrasting dual female/male vocal harmonies to help create a melodic detached sound. Much of the band's recent material, however, sees a heavier and more down-tuned style, featuring a more distinct bass line and a higher mixing of the guitars within the songs.
The band's 2006 release, Karmacode peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 200. They have played among the world's biggest heavy metal festivals on the main stage including Ozzfest, Bloodstock Open Air, Wacken Open Air, and played with Megadeth on their Gigantour tour in November 2007, and are currently on tour with Bullet for My Valentine. They have also been confirmed to be playing at the Download Festival in 2009.

HIM

HIM is a rock band from Finland formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Valo, guitarist Mikko Lindström, and bassist Mikko Paananen. They have released six full length albums to date. As of 2009, they are the only Finnish band to have an album certified a "gold record" in the United States. An unreleased seven-track 1992 demo tape, Witches and Other Night Fears was the band's first recording. The only known copy supposedly resides with frontman Ville Valo.

The band was originally called His Infernal Majesty, but later changed their name after being associated with Satanic Rituals. In addition, "His Infernal Majesty" was too lengthy to pronounce in their native Finnish language so they shortened it to HIM. 666 Ways to Love: Prologue was released in 1996 solely in Finland, and only 1,000 copies of this album were sold. This makes it very rare for HIM collectors and fans, and worth quite a lot. Recently a near mint condition copy of the bands EP was listed on eBay for around $600. The lady on the cover is said to be Valo's mother, who (according to an interview with Valo) worked in a shoe shop at the time. It was produced by Hiili Hiilesmaa, and was recorded at Finnvox Studios, MD and Peacemakers, Helsinki.

Christian Death

Christian Death is an American deathrock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1979. The band was fronted and founded by Rozz Williams and featured guitarist Rikk Agnew.

Christian Death are most notable for their album Only Theatre of Pain, which was a major event in the birth of the Goth and Deathrock subculture within the United States and beyond. After many line up changes, at one point during the 1990s there were two bands with the name Christian Death. One featured Williams, and the other featured Valor Kand, who actually owns all legal rights to the name. He has been the lead guitarist since the second album "Catastrophe Ballet", and later became lead vocalist as well. This version does not feature any members of the original band, though it has been around since 1985.

Anathema

Anathema are an English band from the city of Liverpool, which, together with Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride, helped to develop the death/doom sound, a subgenre of doom metal.

However, their album Eternity was a departure from doom and metal, and signaled their transition to atmospheric rock. Anathema was formed in 1990 as a doom metal band, initially under the name 'Pagan Angel'. In November of that year, the band recorded their first demo, entitled An Iliad of Woes. This demo caught the attention of several bands from the English metal scene, allowing Anathema to play gigs with bands like Bolt Thrower and Paradise Lost.
