Robin Hugh Gibb CBE (born 22 December 1949) is a singer and songwriter. He was born in Douglas, Isle of Man, to English parents, the twin brother of Maurice Gibb (1949-2003), and younger brother to Barry. He is best known as a member of the singing/songwriting trio the Bee Gees.

The trio got their start in Australia, and found major success when they returned to England. The Bee Gees became one of the most successful pop groups of all time.

Miquel Brown (born circa 1945) is a Canadian actress and Disco/Soul singer from the 1970s and '80s most popular for the songs 'Close to Perfection' and the Hi-NRG songs 'So Many Men, So Little Time' and "He's A Saint, He's A Sinner" (both now considered vintage gay anthems) produced in London by Ian Levine.

Also known for her boyish cornrows hairstyle, which she altered into a more womanly cut after some confusion regarding her gender (public, not personal). Originally named Michael, her parents changed the spelling (but retained the pronunciation) so as not to confuse her with a male producer and children's author of the time (Michael Brown). She is the mother of actress/singer Sinitta. She is the step sister of disco singer Amii Stewart. She was born in Montreal and reared in Vancouver, Canada, although some sources list her birthplace as Detroit, Michigan. Her grandfather died when she was 9, her grandmother died when she was 11, and she ran away from her aunt who took her in. As a teenager, Miquel frequented nightclubs, influencing her dream of becoming a performer. As a young woman, Miquel read Medicine at George Washington University in Washington D.C., during which time she married Anthony Blackett and had twin daughters Greta and Sinitta Renet Malone (popularly known as Sinitta, of 'So Macho' and 'Toy Boy' fame) in Seattle, Washington.

Laura Branigan (July 3, 1957 – August 26, 2004) was an American singer-songwriter and actress of Irish ancestry. She is best known for her Top-10 hit "Self Control" (1984), her biggest hit from the Platinum album of the same name. Branigan is also remembered for her other Top-10 hits, "Gloria" (1982) and "Solitaire" (1983).

Death
Branigan died at her home on Long Island, New York, on August 26, 2004. Her death was attributed to a previously undiagnosed brain aneurysm. It was reported in the media that she had been experiencing headaches for a few weeks before her death but did not seek medical attention. Branigan was cremated and her ashes were distributed over Long Island Sound.

Jamiroquai are an English acid jazz/funk/soul/disco band. Jamiroquai was initially the most prominent component in the early-1990s London-based acid jazz movement, alongside groups such as Incognito, the Brand New Heavies, Galliano, and Corduroy.

Subsequent albums have explored other musical directions such as, but not limited to, pop, rock and electronica. Jamiroquai has sold over 21 million records all over the world.
The band name is a portmanteau of Jam session and "iroquai", based on the Iroquois, a Native American tribe. The lineup of the band has changed several times, and the longest serving and now core members of the band are lead singer and songwriter Jason "Jay" Kay and drummer Derrick McKenzie (1994). Despite his self-professed attempts to treat Jamiroquai as a band, Kay has always been at the forefront of how the group is marketed, and has therefore always had the lion's share of media attention, to the point where he is viewed as almost a solo artist. He was the impetus behind the formation of Jamiroquai, deciding to form the band after an unsuccessful audition to become the singer of the Brand New Heavies.

Imagination were a three piece British soul and dance band, who came to prominence in the early 1980s. They had chart hits in twenty eight countries, earning four platinum discs, nine gold discs and over a dozen silver discs around the world between 1981 and 1983. Formed in 1981, the trio took a demo tape of a track called "Body Talk" to producers Jolley & Swain.

It was released as a single in April 1981 under the group name Imagination, a name that the group chose as a tribute to John Lennon. The track reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1981, selling 250,000 copies in the UK and spending eighteen weeks in the Top 50. They had two more hit singles that year, "In and Out of Love" (September) and "Flashback" (November), both of which peaked at number 16, all from their debut album, also called Body Talk.

Hercules and Love Affair is a musical project from New York based DJ Andy Butler. Members include Nomi Ruiz, Kim Ann Foxman & Antony Hegarty (lead vocalist in Antony & The Johnsons). It is signed to DFA Records. Their single "Blind" was released on 3 March, 2008, and their debut album (produced by Butler and Tim Goldsworthy) was released on 10 March. Their self titled album has been critically well received & charted in the top 40 in several countries.

The band's central figure, Andrew Butler, began his musical career at 15, DJing in a Denver leather bar run by a hostess called Chocolate Thunder Pussy. He then moved to Brooklyn, in order to attend Sarah Lawrence College. According to Butler: "I’ve been writing songs since childhood. I made music for dance performances in college (where he studied under Martin Goldray), like a remake of Gino Soccio’s ‘Runaway’ done in the style of Kraftwerk."
The band made their live debut on May 17 2008, at the Studio B venue in Brooklyn, New York, before going on a European and North American tour. Their song "Blind" was awarded Best Song of 2008 by Pitchfork Media.

Grace Jones (born May 19, 1948) is a Jamaican–American singer, model, and actress. Jones secured a record deal with Island Records in 1977, which resulted in a string of dance-club hits and a large gay following. The three disco albums she recorded Portfolio (1977), Fame (1978), and Muse (1979) generated considerable success in that market. These albums consisted of pop melodies (such as "All on a Summer's Night" and "Do or Die," set to a disco beat) and standards (such as "What I Did for Love," "Autumn Leaves," and "Send in the Clowns").

During this period, she also became a muse to Andy Warhol, who photographed her extensively. Jones also accompanied him to famed New York City nightclub Studio 54 on many occasions.
Toward the end of the 1970s, Jones adapted the emerging New Wave music to create a different style for herself. Still with Island, and now working with producers Chris Blackwell, Alex Sadkin and the Compass Point All Stars, she released the acclaimed albums Warm Leatherette (1980) and Nightclubbing (1981). These included re-imaginings of songs by Sting, Iggy Pop, The Pretenders, Roxy Music, Flash and the Pan, The Normal, Ástor Piazzolla, and Tom Petty.
Parallel to her musical shift was an equally dramatic visual makeover, created in partnership with stylist Jean-Paul Goude, with whom she had a son. Jones adopted a severe, androgynous look, with square-cut hair and angular, padded clothes. The iconic cover photographs of Nightclubbing and, subsequently, Slave to the Rhythm (1985) exemplified this new identity. To this day, Jones is known for her unique look at least as much as she is for her music. Her collaboration with Blackwell, Sadkin and the Compass Point All Stars continued with the dub reggae–influenced album Living My Life.

Future Bible Heroes is one of several musical groups led by Stephin Merritt, best known for his work with The Magnetic Fields. He shares vocal duties with Claudia Gonson, who sings on the entirety of 2002's Eternal Youth. In contrast to much of Merritt's work with other groups, the Future Bible Heroes work largely on electronica-based disco, with music provided by Chris Ewen, formerly of Figures on a Beach.

Playing dance-oriented music with the feel of indie pop but the insistent pulse of disco, Friendly Fires hail from St. Albans in Hertfordshire, England. Featuring Ed Macfarlane on vocals and keyboards, Edd Gibson on guitar, and Jack Savidge on drums, all three members of Friendly Fires were in their early twenties when they began making a splash on the U.K. music scene in 2006. After winning a following for their live work, they released their debut recording, an EP titled Photobooth, through the independent People in the Sky label near the end of 2006.

The initial limited-edition pressing soon sold out, and demand for the record prompted a re-press by the time their second EP, Cross the Line, appeared in the summer of 2007. The acclaimed indie label Moshi Moshi Records picked up Friendly Fires for their third release, the single "Paris" b/w "Ex-Lover," issued on October 12, 2007. Thanks to a stylish video directed by Price James and a number of enthusiastic reviews, "Paris" became a hit, and the band landed a high-profile touring slot opening for Interpol on their U.K. tour. XL Recordings, one of England's biggest and most influential independent labels, signed the group to a recording contract; while working on their debut album, the band played New Musical Express' 2008 New Noise Tour. Friendly Fires arrived later that year.

The British disco/funk band Freeez formed in the late '70s, featuring members Paul Morgan (drums), Peter Maas (bass and vocals), Andy Stennett (keyboards), and John Rocca (percussion and vocals).

The quartet issued four albums from the early to mid-'80s, including such titles as 1981's Southern France, 1983's Gonna Get You, 1984's Anti Freeze, and 1985's Idle Vice.

Enigma was a British disco band from the 1980s. Their only singles were "Ain't No Stopping" and "I Love Music", which reached #11 and #25 in the UK Singles Chart respectively in 1981. They also released an album, Ain't No Stoppin' which reached #80 in the UK Albums Chart in September 1981. Their releases were under the Creole Records label.

With two singles out on Prins Thomas' Full Pupp label, two more on Get Physical sub-imprint Kindish, and now, a debut LP on Smalltown Supersound, the 27-year-old Norwegian producer Joachim Dyrdahl (a.k.a. diskJokke) is building an impressive CV.

But there's more to diskJokke than bulletproof connections; his spacey electro-disco is technically impressive and effortlessly appealing. It's rife with surgically straight percussion, oil-slick synths, bouncy bass, and eerie almost-vocal melodies warm sounds with plenty of frigid antimatter, courtesy of judicious effects and pan envelopes, seething between them. Like his countryman Lindstrøm, who came to dance music from a non-dance background, diskJokke studied classical violin and mathematics before turning to beats. The former is evident in his music's sweeping lyricism; the latter, in its cleanly schematized structures. When we talk about going out, we mean going in to a nightclub, restaurant, theater, or other dim enclosure. The background template of diskJokke's MySpace a hammock stretched between palm trees before a huge blue sky suggests an entirely different listening environment for his music. When he talks about staying in, he means going out, in both senses of the phrase. His tracks are equally suited to the close air of clubs and the breezy expanses of the great outdoors, working in deft juxtapositions of the earthly with the alien. The title track's tropical cheer is tailored for a seaside stroll, with burbling hand percussion and a bright melody that evokes timpani runs. But when these peter out to fully reveal the ice-cold synth dollops coagulating beneath them, it's like an unearthly stillness descending as a UFO suddenly lands in the dunes. The same trick is repeated on the tortuously titled "I Was Go To Marrocco and I Don't See You": At first, it's claustrophobic, with a bass line like a big rubber ball bouncing frantically around a small room, but the walls crumble imperceptibly until they suddenly fall away. Then the stars come out, and we drift up through the ceiling.

Disco-Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes were a disco group of the 1970s with a large gay following, mainly due to the overtly camp image of lead vocalist, Sir Monti Rock III (born Joseph Montanez Jr., 29 May 1942, The Bronx, New York).

Formed by Bob Crewe and Sir Monti Rock III (who was a teen idol/talk show regular of the 1960s), their albums included a self-titled release and Manhattan Millionaire (future dance singer, Jocelyn Brown, supplied backup vocals for the group for a time). Their biggest hits were 1975's "Get Dancin'" and "I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo(Doo Dat Dance)". "Get Dancin'" is featured on The Simpsons episodes "Bart vs. Thanksgiving" and "I'm Goin' to Praiseland" (both times performed by fictional group 'Hooray for Everything'). The group was name-checked by Elvis Costello in the song "Invasion Hit Parade" from his 1991 release Mighty Like a Rose with the lyric "No pool, no pets, no cigarettes - Just non-stop Disco Tex and the Sex-o-lettes" The first line of this lyric directly references Roger Miller's well-known tune "King Of The Road"
The group was also name-checked by the Pet Shop Boys on their song "Electricity" from their 1996 release Bilingual with the lyric "It's the greatest show with the best effects, since Disco Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes."

Dead or Alive are a British New Wave band from Liverpool that rose to popularity during the 1980s. They are best known for their #1 UK hit single, "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)", and gained continuous popularity particularly in Japan.

* Although the 1984 song "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" may have been the band's biggest success in North America and at home, their biggest hit in Japan, the 1989 track "Turn Around and Count 2 Ten" topped the Japanese charts for seventeen weeks.
* The band's other major UK hits were the 1986 track "Something in My House", 1985's "Lover Come Back to Me" and "In Too Deep" (of the same year).

* Pete Burns (1980— ): Vocalist of the band and chief songwriter. Burns did not play any instruments but lip-synched with an electric guitar in some music videos.
* Wayne Hussey (1982–1984): An early member of the band who wrote most songs in 1982-1983, plus the Epic Records singles "Misty Circles" and "What I Want". Hussey departed in early 1984 to join The Sisters of Mercy for one year, and then formed The Mission in late 1985.
* Mike Percy (1980–1989): Bass player. Percy was noted for his mullet hairstyle and, along with Lever, wrote most of Dead or Alive's songs from 1984 until 1990. Percy wrote and performed the backing track for the hit song "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)".
* Steve Coy (1980— ): Was the only member to be a good friend of Burns' prior to the band's creation in 1980. Drummer for the band. The youngest member of the band, Coy wrote music for the band but did not delve into the world of lyrics. As of 1996, Coy took over the job of producing Dead or Alive's videos starting with the David Bowie cover, "Rebel Rebel", from the album, Nukleopatra.
* Timothy Lever (1983–1989): keyboards, saxophone, guitars. Lever and bassist Mike Percy were responsible for most of the songwriting for the band.
* Jason Alburey (1995— ): Keyboardist for the band and modernized the bands musical sound. Alburey appears in the 2003 video for the re-release of "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" despite having nothing to do with the song itself.

Charles Arthur Russell Jr. (1952 or November 30, 1951 – April 4, 1992) was an American cellist, composer, singer, and disco artist. While he found the most success in dance music, Russell's career bridged New York's downtown, rock, and dance music scenes;

His collaborators ranged from Philip Glass to David Byrne to Nicky Siano. Relatively unknown during his lifetime, a series of reissues and compilations have raised his profile in the 2000s.

Chic, sometimes fully capitalized as CHIC) is an American disco and R&B band that was formed in 1976 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards.

It is best-known for its commercially successful disco songs, including "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (1977), "Everybody Dance" (1977), "Le Freak" (1978), "I Want Your Love" (1978), "Good Times" (1979), and "My Forbidden Lover" (1979). Chic has recently been nominated for possible 2009 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Boney M. is a West Germany-based pop and disco group created by West German record producer Frank Farian. The four original members of the group's official lineup were Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett (Jamaica), Maizie Williams (Montserrat), and Bobby Farrell (Aruba).

Frank Farian (Franz Reuther), German schlager singer, wasn't happy with the choice of material his record company wanted him to sing. He went into the studio in December 1974 and recorded the song single "Baby Do You Wanna Bump?", a monotonous dance track, singing the repeated "Do you do you wanna bump?" in a deep voice (entirely studio created) as well as performing the high female chorus vocals in his falsetto voice. The record came out, credited to "Boney M." Frank Farian had been watching an Australian detective show, where the lead character was called Boney, and Farian decided that this would make a good name for a group, and added the M. After a slow start it became a hit in the Netherlands and Belgium. It was then that Farian decided to hire a team to 'front' the group for TV performances.

ABBA was a Swedish pop music group active between 1972 and 1983. The band comprised Benny Andersson (Sweden), Björn Ulvaeus (Sweden), Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Norway), and Agnetha Fältskog (Sweden).

They topped the charts worldwide from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. The name "ABBA" is an acronym formed from the first letters of each of the group member's given name (Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid).
They remain a fixture of radio playlists and are one of the world's best selling bands, having sold over 400 million records world wide.
